What the calculator actually returns

This natal chart calculator converts the local birth time to UTC, using the selected city's historical IANA time-zone rules when the browser provides them. It then estimates tropical ecliptic longitudes for the Sun, Moon and eight listed bodies from Mercury through Pluto. The rising sign is calculated separately from sidereal time, latitude and longitude. Birth details stay in the browser while the calculation runs.

Place matters for more than the coordinates. A city can change its UTC offset or daylight-saving policy over the years, so applying today's offset to an older birth record can move the result. A local time skipped when clocks move forward is rejected. If the exact birthplace is absent, choose a nearby city in the same time zone and expect the ascendant degree to be approximate.

A birth chart and a natal chart are common names for the same astrological format. An astronomy star map is a different product: it plots observable constellations and directions rather than twelve equal zodiac sectors. An astrology chart calculator such as this one uses the tropical zodiac, with each sign occupying 30 degrees.

Reading the wheel without adding missing data

The AC line on the left marks the calculated ascendant. The coloured outer band contains the zodiac signs, while the inner spokes help orient the drawing. Those spokes are not house cusps. This free birth chart does not calculate houses, aspects between planets or retrograde motion, so none of those details should be inferred from the picture.

• The planet table reports a sign and an approximate degree within that sign.
• Element totals count the ten rows in the table as Fire, Earth, Air or Water; the ascendant is not included.
• Modality totals group those same rows as Cardinal, Fixed or Mutable.
• The three short Sun, Moon and Rising passages describe traditional astrological associations, not measured personality traits.

A natal chart reading often combines the three headline placements with repeated elements and modalities. That can be an entertaining way to explore the output, but a natal chart analysis is not a psychological assessment. It cannot establish temperament, compatibility, health or future events.

Why another calculator may show a different sign

This page does not download live NASA data or Swiss Ephemeris files. Its compact formulas are useful for an on-page estimate, yet positions near a sign boundary can fall on the other side in a higher-precision ephemeris. A mistyped minute, a different historical time-zone rule, or a sidereal zodiac setting can also change the comparison. When checking a birth chart calculator elsewhere, keep the location, civil time and zodiac system identical.

The free natal chart is intended for curiosity and entertainment. Astronomical positions can be calculated mathematically; the meanings assigned to them by astrology have not been established scientifically. Do not use the result for medical, financial or other consequential decisions.
